Cummington is a town alive with the spirit of New England in the summer. Events like the Cummington Fair, which happens every August on the town’s fairgrounds and includes 4-H exhibition halls, a craft barn, a vaudeville state, an antique car parade, an oxen pull, not to mention a variety of carnival rides, games and food.
The town is home to the 19th century writer William Cullen Bryant, who was a long-time editor of The New York Evening Post, as well as an accomplished poet and journalist.
Also of note, the mineral known as “cummingtonite” was first
found in this area.
