Summer of Dance
America's premier dance festival, now a National Historic Landmark, presents world renowned dance and free outdoor performances, talks, exhibits, gardens, Archives access and tours every summer. Jacob's Pillow, considered to be "a national treasure" and "the home for dance," consists of an internationally recognized Festival, a School for artists, and an Archives department that documents the living history of dance which are available for the public and offers many Community programs each year.
Situated on 163 acres in the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts, the Pillow has at least twice earned a place in American history - first as a station on the Underground Railroad while a family farm in the 1850s, and again in 1933, with its founding by American dance pioneer Ted Shawn. America's first and longest-running dance festival, it continues its unique story, presenting great artists and engaging the public in appreciation for the art of dance.
